Kitchen update!

After a long and awful week, our countertops are finished and exactly what I wanted. Yay! We went through three different topcoats before getting the exact finish I wanted, (sorry Jeff) but look how shiny it is! :-) This was all done using toll paints, glitter, and a polycryllic/polyurethane topcoat.
Here is is before:

And here are the after pictures!

While waiting for topcoats to dry, I made over my island as well. This is not real beadboard, although it looks it! It's Martha Stewart beadboard textured wallpaper. I love this stuff! Each roll covers 56 sq. feet for only $25 at Home Depot. Real beadboard is $50 per 8 linear feet. I didn't even use half my roll. Steal!

Kitchen!

Our kitchen went under construction yesterday. As of now it is almost finished....but here is the before picture:
And here it is sanded, primed, and taped off, ready for paint :

15 Month Checkup

Well Boston....it's official. You are fat :) You weigh 25.9 lbs, putting you in the 85%. That was great, and not the issue. The issue is that you are 31.10 inches long putting you in the 52%. Which means your height to weight ratio is spread too far apart. Dr. Wannacott said to take you off juice to reduce your calorie intake. Basically, you're growing wider faster than you are growing taller haha. Oh boy. I think you're fine, but we'll take you off juice anyways. I'll just give you flavored water instead ;) by the way, you are not fat!
The good news is that she told us you are above average in your development. Normally at this age kids can only say 5 words, and you can say almost10! Mom, dad, ball, balloon, boo, bye, banana, no, and thank you! You can point to some body parts (nose, mouth and eyes) and can eat pretty good with a fork. You understand most of what I say. If I ask you where something is, like binkie, blankie, juice, bottle, or book, you'll go find it.
Ou still don't have any molars yet, she said kids usually have them by now, but you have been a late (and drawn out) teether, and they'll come in soon.
You made it out without any shots! You were due for one, but she gave us the option of getting it with the others at your next appointment to give you a free day :) Yay! Good thing too, because you screamed and cried harder at this appointment than any of your others. You screamed when anyone even walked near you. You're not a dummy! She said kids are aware at this age of what's happening. Next appointment will be rough too :( we'll get a treat next time!

15 Months

Wow, are you really 15 months old? Where is my baby, and who is this toddler?! You are starting to look so grown up! You are becoming more independent which is bitter sweet for me. Part of me loves that, the other part wants to take care of you forever. You do NOT want me feeding you. You shake your head no pretty dramatically if I come at you with a spoon. Even if it's ice cream.... You want to feed yourself, and are getting pretty good at it.
You are developing quite the arm. And when I say that, I mean you can stand by the stairs and nail me in the head sitting on the love sac with a plastic cup. You have a little football we like to play catch with, but anytime you see a ball, you squeal and run for it. That's my boy! Now we just need to get you a Boston hat and baseball glove!
Most recently you've started holding my finger when we're walking. You walk over, grab my finger and take me with you. It's so cute. My favorite is when dad is on one side and I'm on the other, just taking walks :) You've also discovered the battery powered four wheel that was left in our shed. The battery doesn't work, but you love when we pull you around on it! You think you're pretty cool.
You still love story time, and when you want to read a book, will walk over to me with books in one arm, blankie in the other. When we're done, you'll go pick another one, then crawl right back onto my lap.
You have a hobby of cleaning....or something like that. You go nuts when I pull the broom and dustpan out and cry for it. We have a small set that we give you and you sweep with me. The other day I was scrubbing the walls and you took the scrub brush out of my hand to do it for me. You are seriously the cutest boy ever. Not 100% of the time......but I'd say 99% of the time ;) we got so lucky to have you in our family!

Project Nightstands

Scored these babies on a Yardsale. I don't wake up swimming in TV remotes, cell phones, iPads, baby monitors or books anymore. Oh yeah! Little black paint goes a long way. Loving my bedroom!

Faux Granite - Bathroom

Faux granite project #2! Master bathroom counter. This time we were trying to get a bit darker to practice for what we want in our kitchen. I tried for darker, and got lighter haha. Still love it though! In fact, while the missionaries were over they complimented the new granite and didn't believe me when I said it was painted. Yay!

Here are the two countertops together - I can't decide which one I like better....

Next up - Refacing those ugly cabinets!! :)

Faux Granite Countertops - Vanity

Being the cheap person I am, I have been researching for weeks on how to paint faux granite on my countertops. Jeff and I found some paint kits you can buy at Home Depot fot $79, which is a great deal compared to real granite....however, when I said I am cheap.....I meant I am CHEAP! I found several pins on Pinterest where people use toll paints to do it. Toll paints! You know, the stuff for like .69 cents at walmart? Insane? I think so! That's why I decided to give it a test run on the vanity area in my bedroom. That way if I screw it up, only Jeff and I will have to see it.
I watched dozens of videos, but in the end....what did I have to lose? Seriously....not a fan of the before, but the after?!? What do you think? Faux real! (See what I did there?) And yes, that is with toll paint!

Stripes!

The previous homeowners left a bunch of paint in the garage, so I decided to be brave and try some big chunky stripes. What do you think??? When Jeff got home he said, you didn't do chevron? Haha, are you kidding me? I had a hard enough time drawing straight lines. How would you even do that? Hurts my head just thinking about it.
My arms are sore today! It's hard to paint above your head :)
