Chopped Youth Activity

One of our favorite YW activities hands down. This is one of my favorite tv shows, and my husband and I have played it for date nights, and I struggled finding out a way to do it with a big group, but I think we worked it out pretty good and it ended up being surprisingly easy for us leaders! WIN!

We decided to just do the dessert round. I asked each girl to bring a small sample of one of their favorite foods. I was very specific that they did NOT need to go buy anything, just something that they liked that their parents didn't mind them bringing. We had girls bring popcorn, fruit snacks, a bean burrito (hahahah) trail mix, and ritz crackers. I brought a bag of random ingredients just in case girls showed up with nothing, but they were all on top of it and all brought stuff! We split them all into groups of two, and sent each group off to a leaders home. Luckily I had leaders willing to let the girls use random ingredients they found in the house.

Once at the house, the girls had 30 minutes to create a dessert entree using the two ingredients they brought. The two girls I took to my house had fruit snacks and trail mix. They were creative and decided to make no bake cheesecake, using the nuts from the trailmix (ground up) as a crust, and fruit snacks as sauce to go on top. It was fun watching them work together to get everything done on time and make the presentation look just right.

We all met back at the church and had the bishopric judge the food. The desserts were to be judged on presentation, taste, and creativity. I found some cute "chopped" printables and score cards from this blog: Recipes From Stephanie. I used the score cards, but she was much more ambitious than I was! There are some seriously talented people out there.

The group that had the bean burrito actually made cupcakes, and only used the burrito in one cupcake, just put a glob right in the middle HA! I'm glad I didn't have to judge that! The girls were so proud of their desserts and had fun eating the leftovers. Super fun activity!
