And just like that, this kid is 6 years old!
Birthday Treat from the Bishop |
Boston is smart, kind, funny, and is always thinking of others. He is the first to jump up and help me out whether I ask or not. He is super aware of what others are feeling and will come tell me if he's worried about a cousin or a friend. He really loves his sisters, although he and Ellie drive each other nuts and are screaming at each other 75% of the time. He is a tad bit bossy and Ellie doesn't handle it well haha. He loves any and ALL things superhero and wants to be one when he grows up. He got to be star of the week in Kindergarten, and got to take a poster tell his class about himself. Boston also earned Star of the Month in November, I forgot to mention that! He got to have lunch with the principal. He loves building anything, especially with Lego's and is good at reading the instructions on his own. He likes to play outside, especially with his dad if they are playing catch or basketball.
Things Boston chose to put on his poster - Favorite Food: Cheese Pizza, Likes to play in the snow, favorite ride at Disneyland: Guardians of the Galaxy, wants to be a superhero when he grows up (I almost talked to him this...how superhero's aren't real, but I stopped myself. There are so many ways he can be a superhero without having super powers!) loves camping, loves BYU and favorite animal is the red panda.
We decided to go to a movie this year instead of inviting family or friends for a party. Boston chose to go see the new animated Spider man movie.. We even got popcorn (which never happens) and my parents were able to watch Rylee to make sure we enjoyed the movie ha! I was a little skeptical about the movie, but I ended up really liking it! The animation was really cool, and it gave the kids a great message: Every time life knocks you down, you get back up again.
Boston has one really HUGE meltdown once a year around his birthday. He acts out and gets in trouble occasionally, sure, but nothing like this. Dr. Jekyll becomes Mr. Hyde for one night a year only. A low blood curdling devilish scream comes outta that kid that its impossible to believe he is actually capable of producing it. His whole body shakes like there is a beast ready to claw its way out. He will bang on his ceiling from his bed and he used to throw toys at his door (thankfully that has stopped thanks to a trip to DI to take some of his toys).
I'm not really sure why it happens....all the Christmas and Birthday excitement? Too many Christmas treats? Late nights and lots of extended family time? Does he just bottle everything inside, and explodes once a year? I really don't know, but every year starting on his actual 2nd birthday (I remember crying at Leatherby's after a long day of misbehaving, and timeouts, because he started throwing all the napkins from the dispenser on the floor regardless of how many times we said no or smacked his hand away. I remember year 4, where he screamed so loudly at Jeff "WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO DIE!!!!" Yeah, little 4 year old Boston screamed that at the top of his lungs.
This year, it all went down on a normal night when we let them stay up a little past bedtime (only 8...) because they were wrestling Jeff and having fun. When we said it was time for bed, he went berserk. Crying, and yelling....Mr. Hyde had emerged. My archenemy. So we tucked Ellie into bed, and had to physically and forcibly put Boston on his bed. We try calmly talking to him, we lose patience and spank him, nothing works. There is no reasoning with him after he starts...Mr. Hyde has to run its course before we get back to Dr. Jekyll. He was screaming so loud, I went in to save Ellie who had her hands over her ears in her bed haha! Me saving Ellie made him so much worse. Oh man...As I was sitting upstairs with Ellie, I heard him scream: "I HATE YOU!!!!! NOT FOREVER, JUST RIGHT NOW!!!!!" Ha ha! At least its not forever. And seriously, the next morning, after he has passed out and wakes up, he is totally fine and normal again. I'm looking forward to Mr. Hyde volume 7. He's sure to be a riot!
